Some cities have vehicle-free days, when private cars, trucks, motorcycles are banned in the city center. Public transportations like buses, taxis and metros are advised. To what extent do you think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

In some cities around the world, people are not allowed to use private vehicles on some particular days and only public transports are available. From my point of view, this practice brings more benefits than drawbacks.
This approach does lead to some inconvenience for citizens especially for working people. Compared with taking bus or subway, it is more convenient and comfortable to drive one’s own car. With more people taking buses or metros on vehicle-free days, it will add to the burdens of the already overloaded public transport system. The bus terminal may be jam-packed with commuters, which will make people more discontent.
Nevertheless, we cannot deny the contribution it brings to pollution reduction and energy saving. As we know, air pollution has become a severe problem, since it is causing irreversible damage to the environment in many countries and the exhaust fume emitted by various kinds of vehicles is one of the culprits of air pollution. In this sense, if there were few vehicles on the road, it will relieve this problem at some extent. In terms of energy saving, fuels are in such short supply that we have to do everything we can to save energy. Apart from this, another benefit lies in the fact that it will remind people to take public transportation instead of using private vehicles. Definitely more attention could be paid to the advantages brought by using public transports with the implementation of this measure.
All in all, it is a wise practice since all the inconvenience and discontent is temporary as long as governments invest more money on the development of public transport infrastructure. And what is more important is that less pollution will be produced and more energy will be saved, which will benefit the human beings in a long term.

The progress of transport industry is inevitable and undeniable. What is under controversy is whether the volume of traffic is growing at an alarming rate. To be frank, I am in high favor that we are well aware of the traffic problem.
In my point of view, a possible cause of the problem is that we lack the infrastructure construction. Also the overpopulation is the cause of this problem, especially in China. Although the growth of the transport is rapid, it still can not meet the increasing needs of people. Furthermore, people abuse the private cars to take public transport instead, which caused more cars put into use. Lastly, individuals are also responsible for this problem. People are lacking in consciousness and awareness for traffic situation in order. Sometimes, people drive after drinking, which causes more traffic accidents.
The solution, I think, is for government to inject more funds into the construction of infrastructure, increase more construction, such as the restructuring of metro system, elevated ways, Pearl line, and superhighway. Also government should levy heavy tax on luxurious products, and encourage people to use bus service instead of private cars. To individuals, we may establish the family planning to control the growth of the population. Furthermore, we should publicize the importance of obeying the traffic regulations among people by education, and form the civil health lifestyle.
To conclude, with the joint effort of people and governments, I am sure the traffic problems will be improved.

As you have got accustomed to the annoying noise produced by the cars running along the street, can you imagine a quiet day without cars? Actually this has already been practiced throughout the world. Last year, September 22 was set as ideas the “vehicle-free day”, when people were encouraged to walk, ride the bicycle, or take public transportation such as the bus, the taxi and the metro rather than drive their own cars.
Personally, I believe this “vehicle-free day” can bring about a host of positive effects. At the most basic level, people can enjoy a quiet day. What is more, on this special day, the awareness will dawn on people that they should no longer take for granted their life with cars. They will be made to understand that the benefits of driving cars do not come without prices. Cars, for example, emit greenhouse gas, produce huge noises, pollute the air and cause traffic congestion and even dangers that may threaten our lives. Once they realize these hazards, they may minimize the use of their cars and then the condition of the city will be improved.
Undoubtedly, the “vehicle-free day” may also cause problems. The most immediate one is that, when people do not drive their cars, the public transportation system may subject to tremendous pressure. If not planned carefully enough, this well-intended day may turn out a disaster to the city commuters. Fortunately, there do exist solutions to this problem. For instance, we can encourage people to ride bicycles or work at home whenever possible on this day.
