　　《角斗士》劇情介紹：公元180年，羅馬帝國的老皇帝馬庫斯·奧里利烏斯和羅馬軍隊里最有威望的將軍馬克西姆斯托付，希望立他為自己皇位的繼承人，這一表態立即引起了馬庫斯的兒子卡默多斯的強烈不滿。權欲熏心的卡默多斯竟然弒父篡位，并下令殺死馬克西姆斯。

　　馬克西姆斯潛逃埋名，被迫成為競技場里用性命的搏殺來娛樂觀眾的角斗士。他本身豐富的作戰經驗使他逐步成為最著名和最受歡迎的角斗士之一。

　　為了向剝奪自己自由和家庭幸福的邪惡的卡默多斯復仇，馬克西姆斯開始用自己的聲名和角斗技術引導羅馬的人民起來推翻暴君。卡默多斯終于發覺了馬克西姆斯向他發起的挑戰，決定與馬克西姆斯展開一場一對一的生死角斗。

　　(Maximus is boosting morale.)

　　Maximus: Archers, three weeks from now I will be harvesting my crops. Imaging where you will be, and it will be so. Hold the line, stay with me. If you find yourself alone riding in green fields with the sun on your face, do not be trouble, for you are in the Elysium, and you've already died. Brothers, what we do alive echoes in eternity!

　　(Caesar talks to Maximus after a ferocious battle)

　　Caesar: Tell me about your home, Maximus.

　　Maximus: My houce is in the hill above Tiupllo, a very simple place. pink stones that warm in the sun. A kitchen garden, it smells of herbs in the day, jasmine in the evening. Through the gate is a gaint poplar. Figs, apples, pears, and soil mark is black, black as my wife's hair. Grapes on the south slopes, olives on the north. Wild ponies playing in the house that teach my son, he always wants to be one of them.

　　Caesar: Remember the last time that you were home?

　　Maximus: Two years 264 days of this morning.

　　Caesar: Oh I envy you, Maximus. It's a good home, worth fighting for. there is one more duty that I ask of you before you go home.

　　Maximus: What would you have me do? Caesar.

　　Caesar: I want you to become the protector of Rome after I die. I will empower you to one end alone, to give power to the people of Rome, and end the corruption that had crippled it.
