文中的poaching of talented students就是指“爭搶生源”，指的是在高校招生過程中，通過簽訂“預(yù)錄取協(xié)議”等手段，爭搶高分考生。“生源”一般用student pool來表示，這里的talented students指的是各地的“優(yōu)質(zhì)生源”。
